If I have to choose what is the biggest technology wave, I might say Cloud Computing, I might say Big Data or I might say Mobile Computing. As usual, the reality is all of the above! And how? I’d say it is a phenomenon, based on the revolution of Mobile Applications which essentially empowered the mass population to be part of technology.
With all due respect to the business leaders, with their grandiose ideas, and collaborative control of “innovation”, the missing link in technology was people to be part of the creation, as the problem to be resolved rests with people. This is where Mobile Applications came into play, this where Bangladesh has a huge role in the leadership of the revolution, and this is true empowerment in action to be experienced.
Let’s talk about a use case. The premise is, we have 80 million cell phone subscribers, the premise also is the data services for those mobile devices are accelerating, starting with SMS, into rich data experience. I am a farmer, I have been working hard from my crop to be the best. I want to know how much I can get, essentially future price of my produce, hence mobility of the trading application down to the source. I am having problem due to some insects and pests, upload the pictures using my phone to the group of experts and specialists in this field, I get advice and recommendation. I solve my problem real time, not when it is too late (can you solve something too late??). Easy use case. We need to initiate one wave after the other.
As I started with three key components, Cloud Computing, Big Data, and Mobile Computing, it actually is application of the Normal Person, a Mobile and Real Time Application.
