The Cloud Computing is definitely “the” single most investment and revenue generating factor for global IT organization. The number prediction is phenomenal, US $100 billion to US $220 billion. Any way we look at it, if we can get a sub-fraction of that business, we will super-exceed our last five years worth of revenue for all IT Service Providers combined. So, if that is the case, why are we not on top of it? That got me thinking!!
Number One: We want return on our ‘infrastructure’ investment at a similar rate, meaning comparable to ‘immediate’ revenue opportunities. Typical comparison, is project based, I have a project, I provide service, and I should get my return at the end of the delivery of the project.
Number Two: Lack of Understanding of the true potential for the opportunities reside withing the country. We are mostly looking at delivering project for financial industry, government, or at a foreign entity.
Number Three: Gap of the business cases and submission of those to the investors would be the next biggest bottleneck why we are not capitalizing the Cloud Computing revolution.
The typical ROI for any data center and related resources are in the range of 10-15 years. I understand this is very tough to swallow. However, without this, we can not progress further, and the business of the data center is very lucrative, check out Equinix (EQIX), and their stock price!!
Our citizens are hungry for true Bangla app that fulfills their day to day tasks, and I would say, with a download of from potential 30 Million (out of 80 Million cell phone subscriber). If I do the math, the potential, simply should be overwhelming!
Now, the bigger task. We need to develop a skill set so, they can build the business case with right ROI, and TCO. This can also assist us foreign funding, local funding or grants to get the right type of investment.
Combining all of these, shouldn’t we start building the capabilities and start executing?
I think a few of us already started…
